Japanese women (and men) are now taking a blackcurrant extract that reduces dark rings from under the eyes and stops eye-tiredness from sitting at computer and video game screens.

The not-so secret ingredient is a special antioxidant in dark coloured foods called anthocyanin: it dilates and relaxes blood vessels, especially around and in the eyes! And the extract Japanese are using is taken from pure New Zealand Blackcurrants!

In New Zealand and around the world we can get the same benefits: just get a teaspoon of Sujon Blackcurrant Powder or a large handful of Sujon frozen Blackcurrants to get the equivalent goodness from the extract available in Japan. The powder is available from our website If you live in New Zealand, then check out our blog to see where you can buy frozen blackcurrants in your area.

TV One’s hot programme, The Truth About Food, has shown some bizarrely beautiful reasons to think about the food you eat!

And most weeks the talk is about antioxidants! A group of impotent men given a high antioxidant breakfast fruit smoothie showed an improvement in the DNA makeup of their sperm: so much so one couple on the programme got pregnant during the tests.

New independent research suggests that SuJon New Zealand Blackcurrants are the Number One Super Fruit in the world, being the highest antioxidant cultivated berry. This is due to high intensity of natural UV light, a pristine environment, perfect growing conditions and unique varieties to New Zealand. Being the richest natural source of blackcurrant poly phenols available they also outperform bilberry, acai, goji, pomegranate, grape seed, pine bark and blueberry in antioxidant potency.

Nelson family business, Sujon Berries, know better than most the many health benefits of berries. Sujon have a number of projects around delivering those benefits to consumers and have released one of these products to consumers this week – Blackcurrant powder which aids muscle recovery by reducing muscle fatigue and the onset of soreness during and after exercise.

“New independent research suggests that SuJon New Zealand Blackcurrants are the Number One SuperFruit in the world, being the highest antioxidant cultivated berry” says Michelle Gibb, Marketing Manager of SuJon Berries. On the back of this research SuJon developed their blackcurrants into a concentrated form that’s 100% natural and still contains the goodness of real fruit. They are very excited to now have this product called SuJon Blackcurrant Powder available to the market.

Being a natural product Sujon didn’t want to encapsulate it; the experience is about drinking the goodness and feeling good. Their feedback from clients has been extremely positive – Kelly Muirden who has just summited Mount Cook in December 2009 said “The blackcurrant powder gave me the ability to train harder and longer for the climb… it helped me recover phenomenally quickly. I was stoked, following the climb that week I was out running, muscle fatigue was non-existent.” “We guarantee you will feel better after taking our Blackcurrant powder; so confident in fact, that I offer a personal guarantee that no matter what your situation is; being a high performance athlete, someone dealing with a debilitating disease or someone who exercises casually that if you don’t feel better within 7 days of taking this product I’ll give you your money back” says John Gibb, Director of SuJon Berries.

Sujon’s Blackcurrant powder comes in a convenient shelf stable foil pack. “Packaging was important to retain the nutritional and functional values of the fruit. After 18 months of development we have launched with a product that we know from personal experience works. Only a teaspoon a day is required unless training hard or during an event when for full results we recommend you take it before and immediately after exercise in place of the usual daily recommended dose” says Bryce Lukes, General Manager of SuJon Berries.
